Yogyakarta, IndonesiaThe 3rd International Conference on Food and Agricultural Sciences (ICFAS) 2025 concluded successfully in Yogyakarta on 26–28 August 2025. Led by Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) as the main organizer and co-organized by Konsorsium Bioteknologi Indonesia (KBI), the conference convened researchers, policymakers, industry, and academic stakeholders to accelerate innovation in food processing and smart agriculture for enhanced food safety and sustainable food security.

Hosted at Eastparc Hotel Yogyakarta and run in a hybrid format, ICFAS 2025 drew participation from across Indonesia and abroad. According to the BRIN press release, the program featured two keynote plenary speakers and nine international speakers from seven countries, underscoring the conference’s global scope and the urgency of research-driven action in agri-food systems.

Program focus and technical threads

Discussions across plenary, parallel, and industry-focused sessions emphasized practical solutions and technology adoption. Key threads included: advances in food processing and bioprocessing such as fermentation, enzymatic routes, preservation, and valorization; molecular and analytical technologies for food safety spanning biosensors, rapid detection, authentication, and traceability; smart and precision agriculture leveraging IoT, machine vision, data platforms, and AI-supported decision tools; functional ingredients and nutrition including bioactives and precision fermentation; and sustainability-oriented approaches that integrate resource efficiency, circularity, climate adaptation, and resilient supply chains from farm to fork.

Posters, networking, and collaboration

Researchers and practitioners shared recent findings through posters and oral sessions, alongside industry demonstrations and dialogues that connected laboratory breakthroughs with commercialization pathways. The event also supported collaboration building among academia, government agencies, and private-sector partners, including new linkages for pilot testing, technology scaling, and standards. Together, these exchanges reinforced the conference’s mission: translating converging technologies into measurable improvements in quality, safety, and sustainability across food and agriculture.

Appreciation and acknowledgements

KBI extends its sincere appreciation to BRIN as the main organizer and to all committee members, reviewers, speakers, and institutional partners whose dedication made this event possible. We also thank KBI member companies that supported ICFAS 2025 as sponsors: PT Elo Karsa Utama, PT ITS Science Indonesia, PT. Sysmex Indonesia, and PT. Merck Chemicals and Life Sciences. Their support strengthened the scientific program and engagement with practitioners across the value chain.

Looking ahead

The momentum from ICFAS 2025 will continue through follow-up collaborations and dissemination of key insights to stakeholders. KBI is committed to supporting BRIN and partner institutions in advancing impactful research and innovation that bolsters food safety and sustainable food security. We look forward to meeting the community again at the next edition of ICFAS.
