Bandung, November 19, 2025 – The Konsorsium Bioteknologi Indonesia (KBI) held its extensive Board and Committee Meeting on Wednesday, bringing together key stakeholders to map out the organization’s strategic direction for the upcoming year. The hybrid meeting, hosted at the UTC Dago Hotel, Bandung, and virtually via Zoom, took place on the eve of the International Symposium on Bio-products, Biotechnology, and Bioengineering (ISIBIO) 2025.
The session was led by KBI President Wahyu Purbowasito, accompanied by Vice Presidents Dr. Puspita Lisdiyanti and Yawarsa Halim, Executive Secretary Sara Wijayanti Wandoyo, and Treasurer Woro Umayi Ananda. They were joined by representatives from prominent institutional members, including PT Genecraft Labs, PT Indotech Scientific, PT ITS Science Indonesia, PT Elokarsa Utama, and Universitas Padjajaran, alongside online participants from the KBI committee.

Revitalizing the Indonesia Biotechnology Conference (IBC)
A primary agenda item was the planning of KBI’s flagship event, the Indonesia Biotechnology Conference (IBC). The board reached a consensus to schedule the next IBC for the second semester of 2026.
Moving away from the traditional academic seminar format, President Wahyu Purbowasito emphasized that the 2026 iteration will focus heavily on the exhibition of research results and bio-products. The goal is to bridge the gap between researchers and the industry, facilitating genuine business matching and downstreaming (hilirisasi) of biotechnological innovations.
“The concept for the upcoming IBC is to create a platform that is not just about presenting papers, but about showcasing tangible bio-products. We want to connect research outputs directly with industrial users and buyers,” stated Wahyu Purbowasito during the discussion.
Implementation of Individual Membership
Following the mandate from the KBI Congress in 2024, the board discussed the operational framework for accepting individual members. Previously comprised primarily of institutions, KBI is opening its doors to individual researchers, professionals, and students to foster a more inclusive biotechnology community in Indonesia.
The committee addressed the administrative challenges associated with this expansion, committing to upgrading KBI’s digital infrastructure. This includes streamlining the registration process via the website and modernizing the payment verification system to handle a larger volume of members efficiently.
Strengthening Organizational Governance
The meeting also covered essential administrative and legal updates. The board agreed on the necessity of formalizing specific legal standings to improve financial governance, including the establishment of dedicated organizational bank accounts and tax identification (NPWP) to ensure transparency and professional management of the consortium’s assets.
Next Steps
The meeting concluded with a commitment to finalize the timeline for IBC 2026 by early next year. KBI leadership will reconvene in late January or early February 2026 to review the progress of the legal administration and the digital membership system.
