On Thursday, 09 November 2023, at 10.00 WIB, the Indonesian Biotechnology Consortium (KBI) held a hybrid work meeting of the board and members at the Lab SNSU BSN – Puspiptek Serpong Area. The meeting was attended by about 40 participants, both directly and online, consisting of KBI board and member representatives from various research institutions, universities, and biotechnology industries in Indonesia.

The meeting was led by the KBI President, Mastur, Ph.D, and attended by special guests, the Chairman of the KBI Advisory Board, Prof. Bambang Prasetya, and KBI Advisory Board Member, Prof. Siswa Setyahadi. In his speech, Prof. Bambang appreciated the performance and contribution of KBI in developing and advancing the field of biotechnology in Indonesia. He also hoped that KBI could continue to collaborate and synergize with various parties to improve the capacity and quality of research, development, and application of biotechnology in Indonesia.

The meeting discussed several important agendas, including:

  • KBI activity report for the period of July – October 2023, which included various activities such as webinars, workshops, training, publications, and advocacy related to biotechnology.
  • Discussion on the KBI Secretariat Office and preparation for the KBI Congress 2024, which will be an event for meeting and consolidation of biotechnology actors in Indonesia.
  • Discussion on KBI membership, including criteria, procedures, and benefits of becoming a KBI member, as well as strategies for recruiting and retaining KBI members.
  • KBI financial report, which covered the income and expenses of KBI during the period of July – October 2023, as well as the budget plan for the next period.

The meeting lasted for about three hours and went smoothly. The participants engaged in lively discussions and shared their experiences, ideas, and suggestions related to KBI activities. The meeting ended with a friendly chat and lunch together, followed by a group photo session.

We hope that this regular activity can enhance communication, coordination, and cooperation among the KBI board and members, as well as strengthen the role and existence of KBI as a forum and partner for biotechnology actors in Indonesia.
